The pandemic was a huge shock to most of us. Being home all the time and just doing everything virtually. We work from home, students are home-schooled, meetings are held virtually and many people have started their own business and kept it running all while being in the comfort of their own homes!
During the lockdown, we all learned how to keep busy and motivated. We got pretty good at it despite it being very sudden too! I'm sure everyone was very excited about the fact that we did not have to commute to work anymore. We could wake up about an hour later and for some of us, we didn't even have to wear office clothing.
Let's talk about the impact the first lockdown had on is though. I'm sure it took a toll on some of us. There were some things though that I found helped me when I lost my motivation. Anybody working from home? This could help you out!
Having a Routine
Having a routine could be a little too much for some people. They may feel that having a routine may restrict them from doing what they really want to do. Sticking to a routine itself may already seem like a task too hard to do. Some may want to have the freedom to choose what to do and when.
Well, having a routine doesn't have to be restricting and it should not feel like a burden. It should help you make your life easier. You'll already have a set time for everything so you know that you will have time to relax at the end of the day because again, you've set a specific time for it! Why not start by waking up at a certain time and making your bed right when you get out of it. Plus, working from home, cultivating a good routine could keep us from slipping into procrastination. Check out my post on a routine some people find has made their day a lot more productive and fulfilling.
Having a Designated Work Space
Being able to work from anywhere is a blessing. Nowadays we see so many pictures of home-based employees in bed with their laptops, working. However, you will most likely be more productive if you had a dedicated workstation. This way, you really separate yourself from the temptation of laying down while working. Having good light will also keep you up and energized.
If you can, splurge a little on a good desk and a nice office chair. Make sure you are in a work conducive place. Not to mention, you having your own office setup could help keep you focused. Not only will your back thank you, but you will also be really inspired to get work done. Check out this post on ideas as to where you can set up your little office space at home!
Plan And Set Your Priorities
As Cliché as it sounds, this I feel is the most important. This just saves you so much time. You know exactly what you have to do for the day. Tell yourself "I just need to complete these and I'm done for the day." I take it as motivation for me to really get to work so I can have more time to myself. Just make sure you do not compromise the quality of your work! Quality over quantity.
As important as it is to get tasks done each day, it is equally important to make sure you set reasonable boundaries. When you're on a roll at home, it's so easy to not realize what time it is. Ensure you have work-life balance.
What are other ways you can have work-life balance? What should we know about it? I actually wrote a short article on that! Take a look and let me know whether you agree with the things I said.
Til next time, keep safe!
